Mandatory reserves / Legal liquidity


 

  • CRR –Cash Reserve Ratio - 4% of total deposit. 70% of the CRR must be held daily 

  • If not maintained cash reserve fine is; (14 days is 1 time & 28 days in 2 time and so on) 

  • First time bank rate% * shortfall amount 

  • Second time bank rate% * shortfall amount * 1.5 

  • Third time bank rate% * shortfall amount * 2 

  • No fine for trouble declared Bfi 

  • CRR do not includes: Amounts held in special purpose accounts and foreign currency accounts, margin account deposit 

  • For CRR cash deposited at note kosh can be counted upon providing full proof 

  • SLR - Statutory Liquidity Ratio: 12% for class A of domestic deposit 

  • SLR includes CRR, physical cash at branch, T-Bill, govt. Bonds, Investment in bonds issued in Nepali currency by international financial institutions, deposits collected from licensed institution. 

  • SLF - Standing Liquidity Facility: while calculating liquid assets, should exclude the amount borrowed by the bank from financial institutions, including repo and permanent liquidity facilities, against the collateral of the aforementioned government securities or bonds. Only the self-investment amount should be included in the liquid assets. 

  • SLR : domestic deposit liabilities at the end of the previous month will be considered as the base  

  • SLR fine 

  • First time: shortfall amount * Bank rate% 

  • Second time: shortfall amount * Bank rate% *2 

  • Third time: shortfall amount * Bank rate% * 3 

  • No fine for trouble declared BFI 

  • penalty amount will be determined on a monthly basis
